A friendship that like love is warm; A love like friendship, steady.
Thomas Moore
Like most Australians we love to travel, experience the world close up and bring home the best ideas to incorporate into our own lives.
I joined the Air Force straight out of high school and embarked on a long career that provided me the opportunity to work in a variety of countries. I lived in Malaysia for two years (1984-6), and in 2000 moved our young family to the United States where we enjoyed seven and half years of American life. We maintain strong links to our adopted home in Seattle, Washington especially through our love of baseball and music.
Colleen and I prefer independent travel, and embraced the travel philosophy espoused in Rick Steves’ Europe Through The Back Door. We travel light (carry-on bags only), close to the ground and seek out the hidden gems that the average tourist never sees in their attempt to see it all in 14 days.
I am retiring from a successful military career in 2014, and we will settle into a small apartment in Newcastle, Australia as our home base. In retirement I will concentrate on writing, photography and other creative endeavours to explore the world around us.
Colleen is a successful blogger who writes about reducing the waste and clutter in our lives, and inspire others to live a sustainable lifestyle. She volunteers at a local thrift store, and enjoys a coffee with friends.
